In the early evening of January 24, 2023, the life of Boubacar Doukoure, a 29-year-old Black male from Jersey City, was tragically cut short in a parking lot on the 100 block of Clinton Avenue in Newark, New Jersey. At approximately 5:28 p.m., Newark police responded to a report of a shooting and discovered Doukoure unresponsive at the scene. He was pronounced dead less than an hour later, at 6:02 p.m.
The investigation into the fatal shooting was conducted by the Essex County
Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force. Their efforts led to the identification of two suspects, twin brothers Dequan and Uquan Meadows, both 24 years old and residents of Newark. The brothers were subsequently arrested and are currently in custody.
Following their arrest, Dequan and Uquan Meadows were charged with multiple serious offenses in connection with the death of Boubacar Doukoure. The charges include murder, conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Authorities have stated that these are accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting remains active and ongoing.
