In the early morning hours of Saturday, February 25, 2023, the life of 28-year-old Michelle Cruz was tragically cut short in Lawnside, New Jersey. At approximately 4:07 a.m., law enforcement and emergency medical services responded to a call on the 100 block of Mouldy Road. Upon arrival, they discovered Cruz suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly identified a suspect: 29-year-old Kyle Foggy of Cherry Hill. Authorities revealed that Foggy and Cruz had been in a prior dating relationship. Evidence uncovered during the investigation suggested a history of domestic violence, with text messages and videos found on Foggy's cell phone indicating such incidents.
It was also reported that in the hours leading up to the fatal shooting, police had been called to Cruz's apartment building on multiple occasions to remove Foggy from the premises.
Following an intensive search, investigators located Foggy. However, the pursuit ended in further tragedy. On February 28, at the Clara Barton Service Area on the New Jersey Turnpike, Foggy sustained a fatal gunshot wound while in the presence of law enforcement. The New Jersey Attorney General's Office later confirmed that the gunshot was self-inflicted. Subsequently, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office charged Foggy posthumously with the murder of Michelle Cruz, as well as weapons offenses. Authorities have stated that with the suspect also being deceased, there is no ongoing threat to the public.
