In August of 2017, a 31-year-old woman named Jennifer Beers was found deceased in the Hamilton, New Jersey apartment she shared with her boyfriend. The discovery was made after police responded to the residence on South Olden Avenue in the early morning hours of August 13th. Upon their arrival, officers reported hearing a gunshot from inside the second-floor apartment.
Forcing their way inside, police found Jennifer Beers on her bedroom floor, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Alongside her, authorities also discovered the body of her dog. Present in the apartment at the time was her 38-year-old boyfriend, Daniel Torres Jr. He was immediately taken into custody by the officers.
Following an investigation into the shooting, Daniel Torres Jr. was charged with murder, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, and animal cruelty. Reports later surfaced that Torres had allegedly told a 911 operator that 'demons' had compelled him to shoot his girlfriend. In November of 2017, a Mercer County grand jury indicted Torres on the charges brought against him in connection with the death of Jennifer Beers.
