On June 25, 2023, 16-year-old Trah'Zir "Zir" Bennett from Millville, New Jersey, was fatally shot around 8:50 p.m. on Mount Vernon Street in Bridgeton. A GoFundMe campaign described Bennett as "a wonderful son, a caring brother, and most importantly a loving father," noting that he left behind his family and a young daughter.
