In the pre-dawn hours of March 18, 2023, the life of 26-year-old Cody Brian Smith, a male contractor for the University of Virginia, was tragically cut short. The fatal encounter unfolded in a parking lot near Elliewood Avenue, an area adjacent to the university's grounds in Charlottesville, Virginia. Shortly before 3 a.m., a dispute escalated to violence, and Smith was shot.
