On a Monday afternoon in Henrico, Virginia, the life of 41-year-old Brittany Jo McDaniel came to a tragic end. On May 15, 2023, a family member discovered her unresponsive inside her home in the 600 block of Summer Court. This discovery, made at approximately 3:18 p.m., prompted an immediate call for a medical emergency, but it would soon become the start of a homicide investigation.
Born and raised in Richmond, McDaniel was a mother to five children and a grandmother to one.
Her sudden death left her family, including her mother, father, and two sisters, grieving an unexpected and devastating loss. The initial response by law enforcement quickly transitioned from a medical emergency to a criminal investigation as the circumstances of her death became clearer.
The investigation into McDaniel's death, which was determined to be a result of gun violence, led authorities to identify two suspects. In the weeks that followed, Henrico Police announced the arrest of 21-year-old John Quincy Neal of Henrico. He was taken into custody on June 15, 2023, and faced charges of second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Neal was held at the Henrico County jail without bond.
In connection with the same case, law enforcement also identified a second individual, 37-year-old Montreal Javon Robinson of Henrico County. Warrants were issued for his arrest on identical charges of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Authorities cautioned that Robinson should be considered armed and dangerous and sought public assistance in locating him.
