In the late hours of a summer night in Norfolk, Virginia, the life of 32-year-old Deneen C. 'Tricey' Lymore, a Black/African American female, was tragically cut short. On July 24, 2023, just before midnight, the sanctity of her home in the 1500 block of Berkley Avenue Extended was shattered when an assailant kicked in her apartment door and began shooting.
Lymore was struck by the gunfire in what became a horrifying scene for the most vulnerable of witnesses: her four children, who were all present inside the apartment.
During the assault, a 37-year-old man was also shot. Both victims were rushed to a local hospital, but Lymore succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. The male victim survived, having sustained non-life-threatening injuries. In the immediate aftermath, the community and Lymore's loved ones were left reeling, not only from the violence of the act but from the profound trauma inflicted upon her children who had witnessed their mother's final moments.
The investigation into the homicide commenced swiftly, though a clear motive or suspect did not immediately emerge. As of now, Norfolk police have not publicly identified any suspects, and no arrests have been made in connection with the fatal shooting. Authorities have continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case, leaving a family and a community awaiting justice for a life taken in a brutal act of violence.
