In the early hours of Christmas Eve 2023, the festive spirit in a Virginia Beach neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Just after midnight, on December 24th, emergency communications received alerts of shots fired in the 800 block of Riverbend Road. When police arrived at the chaotic scene, they discovered a grim tableau. Two men were found with gunshot wounds. One of them, 43-year-old Antonio Eric Wolfe of Portsmouth, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
The incident, which authorities would later classify as a triple shooting, revealed that a third man connected to the event had also sustained a gunshot wound and had taken himself to the hospital. He was later released. Investigators believe a confrontation among partygoers escalated into the violence that claimed Wolfe's life and injured two others. The male victim was identified as Black/African American.
For weeks, the shadow of the unknown assailant loomed over the community as detectives worked tirelessly to piece together the events of that tragic morning. Their investigation led them to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. On January 8, 2024, the efforts of the Virginia Beach Police Department culminated in an arrest. Marquise Bunn, a 37-year-old man from Portsmouth, was apprehended on an outstanding warrant for being a felon in possession of a firearm related to the incident.
Following his arrest, the gravity of Bunn's alleged involvement became clearer as additional charges were brought against him. He faces accusations of Second-Degree Murder and the Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. As the legal process begins to unfold, Marquise Bunn is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The victim who was transported from the scene remained in critical condition following the arrest.
