On a Tuesday morning in Suffolk, Virginia, the life of 29-year-old Jackquelyn Marie 'Jackie' Stevenson was tragically cut short. On January 30, 2024, police were called to the 2000 block of Mill Lake Road around 8:05 a.m. for a report of an injured person. Upon their arrival, they discovered Stevenson with a fatal gunshot wound. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Known to her friends and family as a loving and hardworking individual, Jackie was an employee at the QVC fulfillment
center. It was during a work break that the tragic event unfolded. Investigations revealed that Stevenson and a co-worker, 43-year-old Antonio Kiawana Newsome of Norfolk, were in a nearby parking area when she was shot. Following the incident, Newsome reportedly returned to work.
Suffolk Police quickly identified Newsome as the suspect in the shooting. He was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Newsome is currently being held at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail. While a motive for the shooting has not been officially released, it has been confirmed that Stevenson and Newsome were acquainted through their employment.
Described as the 'glue' that held her family together, Jackie was a beloved daughter, sister, and friend. She was known for her kind and caring nature, her love for her family, especially her nieces and nephews, and her dedicated work ethic. Her sudden and violent death has left her family and the Suffolk community in mourning. A memorial service was held to honor her life and memory.
