On June 6, 2024, at approximately 9:02 a.m., Richmond police responded to reports of gunfire in the 2900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue, near the Virginia Union University campus. Upon arrival, officers discovered 35-year-old Kevin Demontry Toler Sr. lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
