On a June evening in 2024, a dispute over mechanical services tragically escalated, leading to the death of 52-year-old Romero Strother Cook, a Black male from Clarke County, Virginia. The incident, which began in Clarke County, culminated in a fatal shooting on June 25, 2024, near the Sandy's mobile home community off Fairfax Pike in Frederick County.
Investigations by the Frederick County Sheriff's Office revealed that the disagreement led to a brief vehicle pursuit. The chase ended with a face-to-face confrontation, during which shots were fired, resulting in Cook's death. Remembered as a friendly and generous man with an infectious smile, Cook was a devoted member of the Second Guildfield Baptist Church. He had operated his own business, Cook Tree Service, and had more recently earned his HVAC certification.
Following the incident, authorities identified 42-year-old Terrance Lee Morris of Woodbridge, Virginia, as the primary suspect. Five days later, on June 30, 2024, Morris was apprehended without incident by deputies in Spotsylvania County. He has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, with authorities appealing to the public for any witnesses who were traveling on Route 340 and Fairfax Pike on the evening of the incident to come forward.
