In the early morning hours of June 19, 2021, the life of 29-year-old Devanta Roosevelt Bailey was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting in Williamsburg, Virginia. Bailey, a male, was discovered by officers from the James City County Police Department around 7:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of Ferrell Drive, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The subsequent investigation swiftly identified a suspect, 30-year-old
Travis Lamar Bradsher of Newport News. Authorities announced that they had secured warrants for Bradsher's arrest on charges of felony murder, breaking and entering with the intent to commit a felony, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. A search for Bradsher was immediately launched, and it was determined that he had fled the state.
Later that same day, Travis Lamar Bradsher was apprehended in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, bringing a swift end to the initial manhunt. His arrest marked a significant development in the case, offering a measure of progress for a community grappling with the violent loss of one of its own. Following his capture, legal proceedings were initiated to extradite Bradsher back to Virginia to face the charges against him in connection with the death of Devanta Roosevelt Bailey.
