In the late hours of July 15, 2024, the parents of 19-year-old Nasir J. Mosley were jolted awake by a notification from a crash detection app on their phones. This alert would lead them to a grim discovery in Hampton, Virginia, forever changing their lives. Rushing to the location on Atlantic Avenue near Buckroe Beach, they arrived to find a scene of quiet devastation. Their son's car had veered off the road, crashed through a fence, and come to rest partially submerged in a marshy area.
Inside, they found their son, Nasir, who had been fatally shot while driving.
Hampton Police arrived at the scene after being called by Nasir's parents. Investigators determined that Nasir had been shot, which caused him to lose control of his vehicle. The subsequent crash into the marsh was a result of the gunshot wounds he sustained. Despite the initial response and investigation, which included canvassing the area and collecting evidence, no immediate suspects were identified, and no arrests were made in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. The family continues to hope that someone will come forward with the information needed to bring closure and justice for Nasir.
