On a summer evening in Norfolk, Virginia, the life of 24-year-old Norman Andrew Hollowell Jr., a Black male, was tragically cut short. On July 21, 2024, in the Ocean View neighborhood, police were called to a home in the 2100 block of Pretty Lake Avenue around 7:20 p.m. for a report of a gunshot victim. Upon their arrival, they discovered Hollowell suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Norfolk Police Department's homicide detectives immediately began an investigation into the fatal shooting. Their work led them to identify a suspect in the case. Less than a month later, on August 13, 2024, an arrest was made.
Steven E. Williams Jr., a 23-year-old, was taken into custody in connection with the death of Hollowell. Williams has been charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond as he awaits further legal proceedings. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Hollowell's death is ongoing.
