On August 19, 2024, at approximately 10:41 p.m., Newport News Police responded to reports of a shooting at the intersection of 31st Street and Roanoke Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 54-year-old Marvin Jackson suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
