In the early morning hours of November 2, 2024, a violent encounter in Norfolk, Virginia, claimed the life of 37-year-old Micah L. Bell, a Black male from Portsmouth. The incident unfolded around 5:50 a.m., when police were called to a Wawa convenience store in the 900 block of E. Little Creek Road. There, they discovered Bell suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
Shortly after the initial call, another report came in about a second gunshot victim at a different Wawa location, at 6301 North Military Highway. This individual, however, had sustained non-life-threatening injuries. As detectives delved into the case, they determined that the two incidents were connected. Their investigation led them to the 1800 block of E. Little Creek Road, which they identified as the primary location of the shooting.
The second man who was shot was identified as 28-year-old Miquail D. Owens of Norfolk. As the investigation progressed, authorities charged Owens with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in connection with Micah Bell's death. Following treatment for his injuries, Owens was slated to be transported to the Norfolk City Jail, where he would be held without bond. While an arrest has been made, the motive and the specific circumstances that led to the fatal shooting have not been publicly released by law enforcement.
