On November 6, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Newport News Police responded to reports of a shooting at the Admiral Pointe Apartments in the 7300 block of River Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered 33-year-old Jonathon Powell suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
