In the quiet community of Darlington, South Carolina, the life of 25-year-old Kadajah Mable McKay was tragically cut short on the evening of January 2, 2023. A graduate of Darlington High School and Virginia College, where she earned cum laude honors, Kadajah was a certified medical assistant and a mother to a young son. She was known by her family as a beautiful person both inside and out.
On that Monday night, at a residence on Gemini Drive, a shooting incident claimed two lives.
The Darlington County Coroner pronounced both Kadajah McKay and 30-year-old Joshua Jeremiah Lee of Manning deceased at the scene. Subsequent investigation by the Darlington County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, determined that McKay's death was a homicide, and Lee's was a suicide.
The authorities have characterized the tragic event as a murder-suicide, with Joshua Jeremiah Lee identified as the perpetrator in the shooting death of Kadajah McKay before taking his own life. No other suspects have been named, and no arrests have been made as the investigation concluded that the person responsible was also deceased. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young mother and professional, whose life was ended in an act of violence.
