In the winter of 2023, the life of a 40-year-old Black woman, Latoya Cynthia Coleman, was tragically cut short in Greenwood, South Carolina. On the evening of January 3rd, police responded to a call at the Phoenix Place apartments, where they discovered Coleman inside one of the units with a single gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene, and her death was swiftly ruled a homicide by the Greenwood County Coroner's Office.
