Black/African American male Gabriel Dion Goode, 24, was fatally shot on December 20, 2022, in Greenwood, South Carolina, during an incident at an apartment complex that also resulted in the death of an unborn child. The violence erupted at the Gardens at Parkway Apartments where Goode was reportedly walking toward the parking lot. According to investigators, he was approached by several individuals with whom he had an ongoing disagreement.
The encounter quickly escalated into a physical altercation that ended in gunfire, leaving Goode with fatal injuries.
The shooting had collateral consequences as a stray bullet struck a female bystander who was nine months pregnant. While the woman survived her injuries and was later reported to be recovering, the gunshot caused the death of her unborn baby. Law enforcement officers responded to the scene and began an investigation that would eventually implicate multiple individuals in the coordinated violence.
Police arrested and charged six suspects in connection with the deadly shooting. Javier Williams, 21, and Keiante Hill, 20, were identified as primary suspects and charged with murder. As the investigation progressed, authorities apprehended four additional suspects: Yoshyra Martin, Jaylen Wit, Onla Wiggins, and a teenager whose name was not released due to their age. These additional arrests were made in the weeks following the homicide, with police citing the collaborative nature of the group's actions and the dispute that precipitated the attack.
