In the spring of 2023, the life of a Greenville, South Carolina teenager was tragically cut short. Tyjevious Kamaruri Nasir Jones, a 16-year-old Black male affectionately known as 'Big Red,' was found deceased at his home on Dime Street on the evening of May 3, 2023. The Greenville County Coroner's Office would later confirm that the young man had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head, and his death was officially ruled a homicide.
In the immediate aftermath of the discovery, law
enforcement officials began an investigation that quickly led to an arrest. At the scene of the tragic event, authorities took a relative of the victim into custody. Tyeorje' Nicquavious Malique Jones, 21 years old at the time, was identified as the suspect. According to arrest warrants, Tyeorje' Jones admitted to his involvement in the shooting.
The legal process moved swiftly following the on-scene confession. Tyeorje' Jones was formally charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The specifics of what led to the fatal encounter have not been publicly detailed. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life, with funeral services for Tyjevious held on May 13, 2023, at Watkins, Garrett and Woods Mortuary, followed by his interment at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
