In the quiet Brookstone subdivision of Columbus, Georgia, a grim discovery was made on the evening of Monday, October 6, 2025. Norman Lane, a 65-year-old male, was found deceased inside his home on Brookstone Drive by a family member. Responding to a call about a possible burglary around 8:16 p.m., Columbus Police officers arrived to find signs of a forced entry into the residence. Inside, they located Mr. Lane, who had been fatally shot.
The Muscogee County Coroner's office confirmed he died from shotgun wounds and pronounced him dead at the scene at 9:09 p.m. Investigators from the Violent Crimes Unit began treating the case as a homicide, likely resulting from a home invasion.
