In the spring of 2022, the life of 48-year-old Tommy Lane Smith Jr. was tragically cut short in Greenville, South Carolina. On the afternoon of May 10th, Smith was discovered inside his vehicle near the intersection of Bryson and Gordon streets, having been fatally shot. Remembered as a man who made friends everywhere he went, he was a loving husband, father, and son, with a passion for disc golf, collecting movie and classic memorabilia, and GTO cars.
The events that led to his untimely
death began with a confrontation. According to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, Smith had approached three teenagers regarding a potential theft. This interaction escalated, tragically ending with Smith being shot. The authorities acted swiftly, and their investigation led them to a motel in the neighboring Spartanburg County. It was there that they apprehended three suspects in connection with the fatal shooting.
The individuals taken into custody were 18-year-old Tijerrius Harris and two 16-year-old juveniles. In the course of the arrest, investigators also recovered two firearms. Following the arrests, Harris was charged with murder and criminal conspiracy. The two younger suspects faced similar charges for their alleged involvement in the incident that ended a man's life over a simple confrontation.
