On the evening of March 9, 2022, a dispute at a residence on Emily Lane in Piedmont, South Carolina, turned fatal, ending the life of 23-year-old Jorrell Wright. The young man, known to friends and family as 'Rell,' was shot and killed, leaving behind a daughter and a grieving family.
In the days following the shooting, investigators with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office worked to identify a suspect. Their investigation led them to 21-year-old Jason Daiyon Taylor.
Believing Taylor had fled the state, authorities communicated with the Atlanta Police Department about his potential whereabouts. On March 11, just two days after the incident, Taylor was located and arrested in Atlanta.
Jason Daiyon Taylor is facing charges of Murder and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime in connection with Wright's death. At the time of his arrest in Georgia, he was incarcerated at the Fulton County Jail on unrelated charges. A hold was placed by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office to ensure his extradition to South Carolina to face the charges related to the death of Jorrell Wright. While the motive for the shooting is still under investigation, authorities have indicated that it stemmed from a dispute at an acquaintance's home.
