The night of February 22, 2014, ended in tragedy outside a popular nightlife spot in Greenville, South Carolina. Rodney Jermaine Nesbitt, a 29-year-old Black male, had been out celebrating his recent birthday with friends and family. Nesbitt, an Iraq War veteran who had served in the U.S. Army, was seated in the passenger seat of a Chevy Tahoe on Pelham Road near Crocs Nightclub.
