In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Greenville, South Carolina, a gathering of people at Herdklotz Park was shattered by gunfire. When the chaos subsided, 19-year-old Cor’Shawn Tyrekas McGee was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound. It was around 12:15 a.m. on April 21, 2024, when deputies responded to the scene on Beverly Road. McGee, a Black male, was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
His sudden and violent death left his family and friends reeling with overwhelming hurt and heartbreak.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to two individuals who were familiar with McGee. Investigators determined that 19-year-old Decarlos Bryanthony Ross-Johnson and 18-year-old Kel'Xhyjaih Shaiquise Azon Bobo had driven to the park in a Chevrolet Camaro. Upon spotting McGee among the crowd, it is believed that at least one of the suspects exited the vehicle and opened fire. While a clear motive for the shooting has not been publicly released, the Greenville County Sheriff's Office moved swiftly to apprehend the suspects.
Within days of the fatal shooting, both Ross-Johnson and Bobo were in custody. Ross-Johnson was apprehended first, followed by the arrest of Bobo on April 27, 2024. Both men have since been charged with murder. In addition to the murder charge, Bobo also faces a charge for the possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Following their arrests, both suspects were booked into the Greenville County Detention Center where they are being held without bond as the investigation continues.
