Heather Ann MacCrossen, 26, went missing on August 17, 2007, in Newberry, Florida. Her last known communication was a phone call to her mother from a Greyhound bus station in Gainesville, Florida, stating that she had arrived safely. Heather had been trying to escape an abusive relationship with her boyfriend, Andrelo Witcher, who had a history of violent behavior towards her.
Despite her attempts to leave Florida and seek safety with family in Michigan, she returned to Florida for a court appearance related to a misdemeanor but never showed up to the hearing. After the phone call on August 17, her family never heard from her again.
The relationship between Heather and Witcher was marked by domestic violence, including several instances where Witcher physically assaulted and threatened her life. At one point, Heather was held captive by him for two days before managing to escape. Despite this, she did not pursue legal actions against him, such as a restraining order. Following her disappearance, Witcher denied any involvement, but investigators suspected foul play due to the history of violence and control he exerted over her.
Years after Heather’s disappearance, in 2016, Andrelo Witcher was charged with manslaughter in connection to her case, even though her body was never found. The prosecution's case relied on witness testimonies about Witcher’s threats and his history of abuse. He was convicted in 2018 and sentenced to 30 years in prison. The conviction, although based on circumstantial evidence, provided some measure of justice for Heather’s family, who had long suspected that Witcher was responsible for her death.
