In the summer of 2019, the life of 19-year-old Damoni Ahmir Barker was tragically cut short in Greenville, South Carolina. On the evening of June 27th, Barker was found inside a residence, the victim of a fatal shooting. The Greenville County Coroner's Office later ruled his death a homicide. Friends and family remembered Barker as a young man with a vibrant personality who left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
The investigation into Barker's death quickly led authorities to a
suspect. Just days later, on July 2nd, the Greenville County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 17-year-old Gauge Wyatt Pier. Investigators stated that they believed Pier had conspired with at least one other individual to rob Barker. During the course of this robbery, a confrontation occurred which resulted in Barker being fatally shot.
Following his arrest, Gauge Wyatt Pier was charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, armed robbery, and criminal conspiracy. At the time of his apprehension in southern Greenville County, law enforcement officials indicated that the investigation was ongoing and that they were actively working to identify any other individuals who may have been involved in the incident. Authorities encouraged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
