On a tragic Saturday, May 6, 2023, the life of 41-year-old Georgia Shentrell Dinkins was cut short by an act of gun violence in North Charleston, South Carolina. Born on August 30, 1981, Georgia was remembered by her loved ones as a loving and kind person, a peacemaker who would give you anything she had. She had moved to Charleston later in life and was a graduate of Sumter High School.
Her life was taken at a gas station on Dorchester Road, a place that would become the scene of a
homicide investigation. In the wake of the shooting, the North Charleston Police Department launched an investigation that led to the arrest of two individuals. These suspects were subsequently charged with murder in connection with Georgia's death.
Georgia's passing left a void in the lives of her family and friends. She was a cherished mother to her daughter, Monique Brown, and her two sons, Nathan Harris-Waynick and Anthony Gray. She found great joy in visiting her daughter's home to play with her grandchildren, Amora and Averie Brown. Her family, including her sister, Carolyn Grant, and her special friend, Lewis Graham, remember her fondly. Funeral services to honor her memory were held the following Saturday, where those who knew and loved her gathered to say their final goodbyes.
