Christina Brittany Colon was a 32-year-old mother, sister, daughter, and friend who worked in the food and beverage industry. A White female born in Jersey City, New Jersey, she was a graduate of Coastal Carolina University and lived in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. She was survived by her father, sister, brother, and her young daughter, Isabella.
On the afternoon of November 4, 2021, a road rage incident in North Charleston, South Carolina, turned fatal.
The conflict began on I-26 when 24-year-old Parker Gour witnessed what he believed to be a hit-and-run and began following the other driver, Austin Faltermeier. Christina was a passenger in Faltermeier’s vehicle, and her 7-year-old daughter was in the back seat. According to police, the situation escalated when Faltermeier’s car collided with Gour’s car three times.
The confrontation came to a head on Montague Avenue. After the collisions, Gour pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds into the vehicle Faltermeier was driving. Christina was struck by a bullet and died from the gunshot wound. Her father later told a judge that Gour had shot his daughter through a closed window.
The North Charleston Police Department arrested both drivers at the scene. Parker Gour was charged with voluntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. His attorney argued in court that his client had acted in self-defense against a vehicle being used as a weapon. Austin Faltermeier was charged with first-degree assault and battery as well as unlawful conduct toward a child.
At a bond hearing the day after the shooting, Christina’s father spoke about the impact on his granddaughter, who witnessed the entire event. He recalled his granddaughter telling him she had pleaded with Faltermeier to stop. Christina’s family established a fundraiser to support her daughter, Isabella, who was left without a mother or a father. As of November 2021, the case against both men was proceeding through the court system.
