On July 7, 2023, 20-year-old Greenwood resident Xavier Kenyon Boyd was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body on the steps of a home on Gilliam Avenue. He was transported to Self Regional Healthcare, where he was pronounced dead.
Following an investigation, authorities identified 28-year-old Demetric Desmond Cowan as a suspect in Boyd's death. Cowan turned himself in to the Greenwood Police Department on July 28, 2023, and was charged with murder.
