In the summer of 2023, the life of 33-year-old Victor D’ Jeon Glover, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Columbia, South Carolina. On the evening of July 9th, Columbia Police Department officers were dispatched to the Gable Oaks Apartments on Colleton Street shortly before 9:30 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Glover suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body. Despite the immediate response and efforts to render aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the violent death of Victor Glover led authorities to a significant breakthrough just over a week later. On July 17, 2023, the Columbia Police Department announced the arrest of a 16-year-old male in connection with the fatal shooting. Due to the suspect's age, his identity was not publicly released. Investigators believe the shooting occurred during a prearranged drug transaction between Glover and the teenage suspect. It is alleged that during this encounter, the 16-year-old shot Glover.
The teenage suspect faces a series of grave charges, including murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and armed robbery. Additionally, he was charged with possession of a pistol by a person under the age of 18 and unlawful carry of a pistol. Following his arrest, the juvenile was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and placed in the juvenile section. The incident has cast a spotlight on the issues of youth violence and drug-related crimes within the Columbia community.
