Damajne Hicks, a 25-year-old man from Columbia, South Carolina, was shot and killed on May 31, 2025. The incident took place at the Redpoint Columbia apartments on Southern Drive. Richland County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to a shooting call around 6 a.m. and found Hicks inside an apartment with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Richland County Coroner's office later identified the victim as Damajne Hicks.
He was identified as a Black male in one of the reports.
The investigation revealed that Hicks was present in an apartment with three male visitors when an altercation began between one of the visitors and another person in the apartment. Hicks attempted to intervene in the dispute and was fatally shot. In the weeks following the shooting, three suspects were arrested.
Jayln Malik Smith, 21, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Two other men, Jahquez Mack, 22, and Yaqin Sincere Jackson, 23, were also arrested and charged with accessory after the fact of a felony. Mack was later released on a $100,000 bond. Another individual, Kendall Williamson, 21, was charged with harboring a fugitive in connection to the case.
