In the late evening of August 22, 2023, the life of 21-year-old TyQuirez Rashad Sims, a Black male from Spartanburg, South Carolina, was tragically cut short. Known affectionately as 'TQ,' he was found on a sidewalk at the College Pointe Apartments with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The apartment complex is located near the University of South Carolina Upstate, though Sims was not a student there.
