In the early hours of November 14, 2023, the life of 33-year-old Perry Teevon Smith, a Black male known to his friends and family as 'Pelow,' was tragically cut short. Smith was visiting a friend at the Mercy Circle apartments in Hardeeville, South Carolina, when he was struck by gunfire at approximately 1:37 a.m. Officers from the Hardeeville Police Department responded to a call and discovered Smith deceased at the scene from at least one gunshot wound.

Smith was born on July 27, 1990, in Beaufort County. After graduating from Ridgeland High School, he pursued higher education at the Technical College of the Lowcountry, where he earned his electrician's license. For 16 years, he worked with the Randy May Electrical Company before realizing his dream of owning his own business, the Tru Electric Company. He was a father to two sons, Perry Teevon Smith Jr. and D'Angelo Smith.
The investigation into Smith's death has been ongoing since 2023. While there were no direct witnesses to the shooting, the case remains a top priority for the Hardeeville Police Department. More than a year after the incident, law enforcement announced they had uncovered new 'critical evidence,' which has reignited their search for the person or persons responsible.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. However, authorities have indicated that they are pursuing leads related to several persons of interest. The Hardeeville Police Chief has expressed his personal commitment to solving the case for the sake of Smith's family. The investigation remains active as they continue to seek justice for Perry Teevon Smith.
