On the morning of August 10, 2017, in Hardeeville, South Carolina, a violent encounter unfolded in the Argent Square parking lot off Ulman Street. Ernest Martin Stevens, a 77-year-old White male and former volunteer fire chief, was sitting in the driver's seat of his Ford F-150 truck just before 9:00 a.m. when he was approached by a stranger.
