On a Friday in November 2023, the life of Ronald Lamar White, a 33-year-old Black man from North Charleston, South Carolina, was brought to a sudden and violent end. His death on November 17 left his loved ones to mourn a man who had just entered into eternal rest, according to his family.
That day, Charleston County deputies were called to the 4300 block of Andrews Street after a passerby made a grim discovery.
The person had spotted a man lying on the ground suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. First responders identified the man as Ronald White, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators with the sheriff's office began to piece together the events that led to the deadly shooting. Their work soon pointed them toward a suspect, and they identified Dameon Lamar Thompson, a 30-year-old man from the nearby town of Summerville, as the person allegedly responsible for the killing.
Authorities arrested Thompson and charged him with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. As of November 2023, the investigation was ongoing.
