In the early morning hours of March 6, 2024, the life of 40-year-old Roy Phillip Knight of Port Royal, South Carolina, was tragically cut short on Hilton Head Island. Knight, a male, was the victim of a fatal shooting on Old Wild Horse Road.
Deputies from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene at 6:55 a.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Knight, who was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:07 a.m.
The incident prompted a heavy police presence in the area, which is located near the entrance to the island.
Public records indicate that Knight had resided in the Beaufort area since at least 2000 and had lived on Ribaut Road. Funeral services for Knight were held, with a viewing on March 15, 2024, followed by a service on March 16. He was laid to rest with military honors at the Beaufort National Cemetery on March 21, 2024.
