On May 12, 2024, 64-year-old Michael Smith was fatally shot in his home on Long Meadow Drive in Loris, South Carolina. Horry County Police responded to a 911 call around 9 p.m., placed by his wife, 63-year-old Laura Ann Smith, who reported the shooting and awaited officers outside the residence. Inside, authorities found Michael Smith lying on his back in the bedroom with a single gunshot wound to the upper right chest and a black handgun nearby.
