In the early morning hours of May 18, 2024, a targeted attack in Walterboro, South Carolina, claimed the lives of three individuals, including a two-year-old female named Asiyra Cole. The young girl, her paternal grandmother, 43-year-old Alisha Gardner, and a 49-year-old man named Harvel Breland, were all shot and killed at a residence on Hayden Street.
Described as a sweet and beautiful girl with a contagious, squinty smile, Asiyra was known to light up any room.
Her fun-loving personality and giggles could lift any spirit. Her grandmother, Alisha, was remembered as a calm and composed woman who was a rock for her family and friends, and who shared a special bond with her granddaughter.
The Colleton County Sheriff's Office launched a triple homicide investigation, quickly determining that the act was not random but a targeted event. Investigators identified a vehicle of interest, a Cadillac CTS, which led them to their first suspect. Jameek Glover, the registered owner of the car, was arrested on June 4, 2024. Initially charged with accessory after the fact to murder, his charges were later upgraded to three counts of murder.
A second suspect, 23-year-old Justin Dupont, was arrested on June 18, 2024, and also charged with three counts of murder in connection with the fatal shooting. Both men were denied bond and are being held at the Colleton County Detention Center. Authorities believe a third person was involved in the killings and the investigation remains active. The family of Asiyra Cole has offered a $20,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those involved. While a motive has not been officially released, it is believed the violence is connected to ongoing gang warfare in the area.
