On the day of the incident, JayQuan was visiting his cousins to help an elderly individual with moving. They had walked to a nearby gas station when a car approached them, and an occupant within the vehicle began shooting. JayQuan was struck by the gunfire and succumbed to his injuries. Another juvenile who was with him was also injured in the shooting.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, JayQuan's mother, Tedra Brown, expressed profound grief and made a heartfelt plea to the community to end gun violence. The North Charleston Police Department is actively investigating the shooting. As of late 2025, no arrests have been reported in connection with the murder of JayQuan Milik Lamar Brown, and the case remains ongoing.
