In the fall of 2022, a young man's life was tragically cut short following a violent encounter at a motel in North Charleston, South Carolina. Keyjuan Ford, a 19-year-old male, was shot during an altercation at the Relax Inn on Ashley Phosphate Road on the morning of October 26, 2022. Despite being rushed to Trident Medical Center for treatment, Ford succumbed to his injuries two weeks later, on November 8, 2022.
The investigation into the shooting led North Charleston police to two
suspects, 22-year-old Brooklyn Mitchell and 19-year-old Markwon Stanley. According to reports and surveillance footage from the motel, Mitchell and Stanley were seen entering Ford's room. It is alleged that during the encounter, Mitchell shot Ford in the torso before the pair fled with a sum of money. The initial report described a suspect wearing all black and a black ski mask at the scene around 11 a.m.
In early January 2023, both suspects were apprehended by law enforcement. Markwon Stanley was arrested on January 8, followed by Brooklyn Mitchell's arrest on January 9. Both individuals faced several criminal charges, including the grave charge of murder, in connection with the death of Keyjuan Ford. Further investigation revealed that Mitchell and Stanley were also implicated in another robbery that occurred in October 2022 at the Red Roof Inn on Northwoods Boulevard in North Charleston. In that incident, the duo allegedly posed as housekeeping to gain entry to a room and then robbed four people.
