In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in Swansea, South Carolina, the quiet of Calvary Church Road was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Before daybreak on June 25, 2024, a deputy responded to a call about a shooting and discovered a man who had been shot but was still conscious. A witness then directed the deputy down the road to a second victim. There, outside his home, lay 60-year-old Robert Todd Bailey, a resident of Swansea. He had been shot in the upper body.
The deputy performed CPR until emergency medical services arrived, but Bailey succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The investigation into the double shooting, which the Lexington County Coroner later ruled a homicide, quickly led to a suspect. The shooting had occurred just days after one of the victims had been in a fight with Joey Len Inabinet Jr., a 29-year-old fellow Swansea resident. By that same Tuesday morning, Inabinet was in custody. The Lexington County Sheriff's Department announced that shell casings found at the scene were consistent with a gun known to have been in Inabinet's possession.
Another man was also shot during the incident and was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. Further details on his condition were not immediately made public. There was no information released regarding the reason for the initial fight between Inabinet and one of the victims.
Joey Len Inabinet Jr. was charged with murder in the death of Robert Todd Bailey. He also faces charges of attempted murder for the shooting of the second man, as well as possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
