On August 4, 2024, at approximately 6 a.m., 32-year-old JaQuen Marquell Jefferson of Sumter County, South Carolina, was fatally shot while traveling on Dinkins Mill Road in the Rembert community. Prior to the shooting, witnesses reported that Jefferson had been involved in a heated altercation with two individuals—35-year-old Terone Justin McCray and 28-year-old Nia Laprece Wright—in the parking lot of a local establishment.
