In the quiet community of Rembert, South Carolina, a Saturday night was shattered by gunfire that ended a young life. On June 27, 2026, Daizhan K’Vonte-Les Perry, a 23-year-old male, was killed in a shooting on Easy Street. Around 10:30 p.m., deputies from the Sumter County Sheriff's Office responded to calls about shots being fired. Arriving at the scene, they found Perry, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the home.
The violence of that evening also left two other individuals wounded. They were transported to Prisma Health Tuomey hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and were reported to be in stable condition.
Daizhan, the son of Randolph Perry, Jr. and Kacey Hunter Diggs, was born in Sumter on November 20, 2002. He was raised in the Rembert community and attended local public schools. At the time of his death, he was employed as a production worker at Pilgrim Pride. His family and friends were left to mourn the sudden and tragic loss of a young man just beginning his adult life. The family announced that they would receive relatives and friends at his home on Dennis Road in Rembert. A celebration of his life was planned for Monday, July 6, 2026, at the New Beginning Outreach Ministry in nearby Dalzell, with his burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office immediately began an investigation into the deadly shooting. Sheriff Anthony Dennis described the act as "senseless and heinous" and assured the public that investigators were working swiftly to identify the person or persons responsible. While no arrests were immediately made, authorities stated they were searching for a person of interest. Investigators indicated that they believed the shooting was an isolated incident and that there was no continuing threat to the public. As of the days following the shooting, no motive for the gunfire had been released, and the case remained an active and ongoing homicide investigation, leaving a community seeking answers and justice for the death of Daizhan Perry.
