On a summer day in Rembert, South Carolina, the body of 22-year-old Aaron Lewis, a resident of Bishopville, was discovered. It was July 12, 2019, when Lewis was found inside his vehicle, which was parked along Huggins Road near Pisgah Road. An apparent gunshot wound was the cause of his death, a fact later confirmed by the Sumter County Coroner. The discovery, made near the border of Sumter and Lee counties, prompted an immediate investigation by the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.
An autopsy was scheduled to be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston to further investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
As the investigation into the death of Aaron Lewis progressed, authorities from the Sumter County Sheriff's Office were able to identify a suspect. Approximately two weeks after Lewis's body was found, an arrest was made in connection with the case. Ya'Vaundre Mi'Onte Richardson, an 18-year-old from Rembert, was taken into custody. The charges brought against Richardson were serious, including murder, armed robbery, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. At the time of Richardson's arrest, law enforcement officials indicated that the investigation was still active, suggesting that more arrests could be possible as they continued to uncover details of the case.
