Cameron Nathaniel Tyler, a 16-year-old Black teenager known to some as "10 Cam," was a student who had attended C.E. Williams Middle School and West Ashley High School. His life was cut short by gun violence in his North Charleston, South Carolina, community in the summer of 2024. In the wake of his death, his family organized a fundraiser to help honor his memory.
On the evening of Friday, August 16, 2024, police responded to a call at approximately 9:28 p.m.
When officers arrived on scene near the 7700 block of Warsaw Road, they were flagged down by people who led them to Cameron, who was lying on the ground. The Charleston County Coroner, Bobbi Jo O’Neal, later confirmed that Cameron had died at the scene from a gunshot wound.
The North Charleston Police Department immediately began an investigation into the fatal shooting. The inquiry led to a swift arrest the following morning. On Saturday, August 17, police took a juvenile male into custody in connection with Cameron's death. Authorities did not publicly release the name of the arrested youth because of his age.
A police spokesperson, Harve Jacobs, announced that the juvenile had been charged with involuntary manslaughter. At the time of the announcement, police stated that the case was still under investigation. As of August 2024, the case was proceeding through the justice system.
