In the late summer evening of August 31, 2024, a fateful encounter unfolded at the Mulberry Court Apartments in Greenville, South Carolina, that would end the life of 17-year-old Andre 'Dre' Udonus Nicholson. A Black/African American male, Nicholson was involved in an attempted armed robbery alongside 18-year-old Corey Russ and another individual who has not been identified.
Their objective was reportedly to steal a rifle from a 16-year-old resident of the apartment complex.
During the confrontation, the situation escalated, and shots were fired. Nicholson was struck multiple times, while the 16-year-old they were allegedly attempting to rob sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency services responded to the scene, and Nicholson was transported to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital. Despite medical efforts, Andre Udonus Nicholson succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
In the immediate aftermath, the Greenville Police Department launched an investigation into the deadly incident. They arrested Corey Russ at the scene of the shooting. Russ has since been charged with a slate of serious offenses, including murder, armed robbery, and conspiracy. Authorities have indicated that they are still actively seeking the third person believed to have been involved in the attempted robbery.
