In September 2024, the quiet life of 74-year-old Wanda Gail Lowry came to a tragic end in her Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, home. Remembered by loved ones for her heart of gold and willingness to help anyone in need, she was a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend who found joy in traveling, beach outings, and spending time with her family.
Concerns arose when friends and family had not heard from Lowry for several days.
This prompted a welfare check on September 20th at her residence on Breakers Drive. Upon entering the home, Horry County Police officers made a grim discovery; Lowry was deceased, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Investigators believe she was last seen alive on September 11th and was likely killed the following day.
The investigation into her death led to the arrest of 29-year-old Morgan Joseph Folta. He was taken into custody after reportedly making statements to staff at the Lighthouse Behavioral Hospital in Conway about shooting Lowry. An arrest warrant later revealed that she had been shot in the head. While the full nature of their relationship has not been officially detailed, some reports indicate they were co-workers.
Folta has since been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He is currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bond as the legal proceedings continue. A graveside service to honor Wanda Gail Lowry's life was held on October 3, 2024, at Dorchester Memory Gardens in Summerville.
