In the late hours of a Saturday evening in September 2024, the life of 40-year-old Corey Johns of Lexington, South Carolina, was tragically cut short. On September 14th, Johns and another man, 37-year-old Jibaris Veal of Columbia, were discovered inside a vehicle on Koon Store Road in a rural part of Richland County. Both men had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation by the Richland County Sheriff's Department revealed that the
shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. The two men were found in a Jeep Cherokee that was partially inside a shed. Authorities have stated that neither Johns nor Veal were the intended targets of the shooting. The investigation uncovered a connection between the double homicide and an armed robbery that had taken place earlier in the month.
In the months that followed, investigators made a series of arrests in connection with the murders. Two men, 34-year-old Travis Harrison and 36-year-old Emerson Crespo, were taken into custody. A third suspect, 18-year-old Devon Huguenin, was apprehended in March 2025. Huguenin was arrested on two counts of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. His arrest was preceded by a separate incident in January where he led deputies on a chase in a stolen vehicle, which ended in a crash. All three men have been charged in the deaths of Corey Johns and Jibaris Veal.
